Baby Cam recommendations

Requirements:

  • [preferred] - 2k res
  • Wireless with power adapter to wall is totally fine
  • Need to maintain connection during internet outage
  • Integrate with HA
  • Low light / Night vision

I’m really looking for a simple solution. Maybe an alert on phone if motion is detected, ability to turn on/off, viewable in lovelace tab.

Any recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated. I currently have nest drop cams.
There is an integration, but it’s a big ol pain in the d*ck and I’ve always found it to be very problematic in my dashboard. Sometimes it’s online, sometimes it’s not. Laggy live feed etc.

The babycam we have used the past years has not had any of those requirements.
But I guess we have different opinions.

I would still say add low light/night vision to your list

Good point, I thought I added that. Also, needed to clarify a bit on wired :+1:

Bit hard to see details in the dark at 1080p from about 10 feet on the nest cam and going to be used on a tablet to view so figured 2k would be great.

I doubt our even have 720.
You hear the sound and you look at the monitor to see how many large pixels is moving and you learn to “read” it.
But it has it’s own wireless system so we can move it where we want.

And that is the thing that strikes me with your list, you want it permanent in one room (wired).
I can’t even count how many times we have brought our with us to hotels, campings, friends and family and so on.
That is generally (our opinion) when it’s needed the most, when your baby needs to sleep at a friends house and you don’t have a baby crib, you need to put them in a normal bed and you just set up the camera and that saves “the day”.

Have a look at the unifi lineup. They have a new wireless one for 29 bucks. Plus a controller. The lineup inludes eth connected ones for 70 bucks or even outdoor ones … . Works perfect with HA.

I am using Lorex LNE8950AB security cam. It is ONVIF compliant and works flawlessly with the integration. You also do not need any special software to view, I use VLC.

The night vision is phenomenal, and it has a mic so you can use it as a baby monitor. It is also 4K so you can see details even at 20ft. Since he is on a floor bed and not a crib the cam needs to get pretty much the entire room, and it gets 90% of it (it is ceiling mounted).

And it can always be repurposed as an actual security cam in the future.

Solid. I’ll check it out. I may need to get another as we’re moving soon so don’t want to drill on the ceiling, but honestly that’s a great idea to be higher up and out of the way. Plus who doesn’t love 4k?
Thanks a ton.
