This is going to be my first ever formal complaint. I have been a long time user and nabu casa subscriber and I am really frustrated. I was one of the supervised installs and yesterday I began the process of migration. I chose HAOS as I used it recently at my vacation property and felt that it was the closest to supervised, of course without the control over the os. I am in the middle if migration as the backup and restore feature is terrible. After almost 8 hours on a j4105 mini PC I shorted my first restore process. I removed maria db and I am currently on hour 3 without a restored system. I am really frustrated and I hope my system will restore. With no status bar or percentage indicator I have no idea how far along I am. So this is my complaint. You just forced a sizeable and I would say probably some of your most loyal users to update their systems, and with the only option for system restore to be an incredibly slow and frustrating experience. Ok that does it, that ended. I really hope my system comes up soon.
How big is your backup file?
The tar file is 320 MB.
You can sort of monitor the progress via ha supervisor logs -vf in the CLI. I’d also take a look at the core logs via ha core logs -vf.
I don’t disagree with what you wrote but maybe this helps.
I’ve restored from 3Gb backups really quickly. Something is not right with your system.
It appears it gets stuck on Cleaning home assistant application in the supervisor logs.
I didn’t see any major errors on the supervisor.
The core logs have a few errors, but they are around a bad cname.
One way to speed up the restore process I found is to restore only the HA backup without the add-ons. Once that is done and HA is running, you can restore the add-ons. Speeds things up considerably.
to add to complains - if you upload a big backup file to HA and the restore does not work and you tr@ it again, there is no way to see your uploaded file. You have to upload the (big) file again to be told after, it already exists.
Did you restore on boarding HA step or restore after intial steps. I’m in process of migrating from HAOS to docker and it seems if you first do the intial boarding and then the restore, it is kindof faster and consistent.
When I restored last in onboarding, it took forever, only to find out it was sitting there doing nothing. I too went through onboarding, installed Samba, copied the backup through Samba and was done in minutes rater than hours on a way bigger backup.
I usd a different way to log what restore was doing, I’ll see if I can find my post about it.
EDIT: found it. With monitor and keyboard attached, in the CLI type: jobs info
It gives you running jobs. If you see an empty list, it is not doing anything. If it is busy, you see what jobs it finished and which are running (such as restore addons)
The jobs info command helped, but unfortunately it just showed me that there were orphaned child jobs. The jobs would sit for about 2 hours without any stays update.
Additionally the restore showed that settings ran and folders ran, but unfortunately none of my dashboards site up properly.
I am basically having to rebuild my entire house. Luckily zigbee and z want did migrate.
