First of all, I’m searching for logging, but that is harder if the UI is not running. FYI I ruled out a lot.
The PI has network connection to all devices in the network. I only have one network/range.
I can print to my printer from all devices.
There is no firewall, except from outside to inside off course.
Tried a windows computer with all firewalls disabled.
Restarted router and afterwards the PI
The only VM I’m running is Parallels on my Mac. HA is running on the HA OS, so no VM.
All my devices shows addresses in the correct range. All my devices have internet via my LAN.
I’m more and more thinking that I did something wich caused this problem. So the problem is to find somewhere in the HA system. I haven’t any networking problems.
What I’m going to try is unplug everything and initiate a fresh install with a SD card. In this way I want to rule out any problems with the PI. If I can access the PI then everything on the network should be Ok. Nothing is lost with this action.
Also no luck. I started to believe that there is something wrong on the disc. In the core log there are a load of errors. Reading is very hard because they are in red.
Because I also have no SSH connection I can’t share the log. But what I can read it has something to do with helpers. A lot of errors from .py files and linenumbers. I’m afraid a reinstall is coming closer and closer.
Could an update to the last version be a solution in this case?
Anyway, a fresh install works. I can connect to HA. As soon I restore a backup (from the startup, or from within HA) it gives me the same troubles or a message: Server error 500. The server got himself in trouble.
I tried several backups.
It looks to me that there is something wrong in the config for a longer period.
This means I have to rebuild the whole config again I’m afraid (second time). I have a Edilkamin pellet stove, and as far as I know HA is the only one with two integrations for it.
At last I found what’s wrong. There is something wrong with my Let’s Encrypt certificates. Removed it from configuration.yaml and everything is working again. No SSL off course. Now I have to find out what went wrong here.
It took me a long time building a new config and restart after every change. As soon as I put in the HTTP section it was bingo.
It didn’t occur to You telling you had tried to enable SSL ?, Please atleast read the official Docs etc, before you changing anything in Your System.
As you have a topic header, in regards to Backup, and been fluctuating from , Can’t access UI to suspecting Card, failure, showing very “limited” HAOS knowledge and SSH not working , etc etc.
I took the liberty to change Your Topic header.
Please Read the First Topic in this Forum. How to help us help you - or How to ask a good question .
SSL was already running for, I think 5 years. So I didn’t expect to search in that direction. I discovered it by accident when building a new system. It suddenly was not accesible anymore. So started again and traced back my steps.
Now I have the challenge to get it back running with a certificate again. Otherwise I can’t use it when I’m not at home.
I understand the frustration of everyone who helped me, but something that just stops working irritates me too. In fact, you can see that the system is still functioning underwater, but you can no longer access it.
But I am and was happy with all the help.
And sometimes manuals are difficult to understand.
Alot of people have had “issues” like Yours, in specific on Pi’s, why/how UI-Access suddenly don’t work can be caused by tons a variations , which i.e a manual can’t even cover
Best approach is a systematic trouble-shooting approach, based on common system knowledge.
Im sure you get your SSL up and running again
Maybe your software problems were caused by data corruption and your SSD drive isn’t getting enough power to function well. That powered USB hub suggestion may be cheap insurance.
Eliminate that as a cause of concern, now that you have chosen to abandon rescuing your old data and are starting afresh.
The SSD drive has statistics that can show how healthy it is. Worth checking before you decide to write it off.
You kept that part secret till now, knowing there were network issues?
I suspect if you kept using a little less CLI and SSH activity, and used the inbuilt HomeAssistant provided functions and vendor documentation, you may not have had so many issues.
After removing the http section from the configuration.yaml an a restart everything was working well. As far as I can see no data corruption. But… I take the advice about external powering the SSD. You are defenatly right about that. It appears that my SSD takes 1,6 A at 5V. I think that’s not constant but during power-on, but still too high.
So I ordered a new SSD and a USB3 powered hub.
I also found out that it seems that the certificates aren’t renewed. This was the reason of all the shit I think. I have SSL working again with renewed certificates.
So you used https instead of http? Wasn’t there warnings about expired certificates or something else in your browser that you omitted to detail in depth in your reply that could have pointed to a path to pursue?
Far outside the specifications for either USB2 or USB3 port current draw, and a distinct possibility that this may have contributed to disk data corruption which repeated restore activity just put back again.
Your new drive may not draw as much current, but you should allow for a powered hub of adequate capacity as a reliable source of power for it.
I’d consider any data you currently have as suspect, and your approach to wipe everything and start from scratch may be the best approach, with the experience you have gained so far put towards a simpler and faster experience the second time around.
had a similar issue . Suddently lost visibility of all backup files who are on a nas. HA says location not avaliable. I delete and reconfigure my network storage and bingo! all files reappear
