Do not do as I did and forget to backup the SD under development, my SD gave up. Do it reguraly!!
I’m using, as a windows user, Win32DiskImager for SD image backup and GoodSync for some specific catalogues.

Whether you’re developing, or just and end user, regular automated backups are a must. Unfortunately it’s a lesson almost everybody learns the hard way - you’re far from alone.
I’m a fan of rpi-clone for doing live clones of the SD, and rsnapshot for local backups, and rclone for backups to the cloud. There are plenty of other options for all of these though.
