this one is for parents in Germany: many schools, especially in Bavaria, use Eltern-Portal to send parent letters, messages, surveys and timetable changes. Our two kids attend two different grammar schools, both on Eltern-Portal – and something always slipped through. So I built an integration that pulls everything into Home Assistant and turns it into tasks: Schulmanager.
signs in to Eltern-Portal by itself (several schools and children in one installation)
stores parent letters and attachments per child and school year
optionally lets an AI (AI Task, e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Ollama) work out what you actually have to do: sign, pay (with amount, IBAN and payment reference), return, bring along – including the deadline
to-do list and calendar per child, traffic-light sensor, push reminders, a morning summary and voice announcements
timetable with substitutions, exams and tests, plus sick notes
creates a ready-made “Schule” dashboard with its own cards
Eltern-Portal has no official API; the integration reads the web pages (via pyelternportal). If the provider changes something, a section may stop working until an update.
Without an AI service you only get simple detection of dates and amounts. With AI, the text and PDF of a message are sent to that provider; everything else stays local.
The interface (cards, notifications) is in German, as are the schools it is made for.
Private hobby project, no warranty.
How you can help
So far it has only been tested with two schools. I’m especially interested in:
Do sign-in and fetching work for your school?
Do the timetable and substitution plan look right for you (subject abbreviations, rooms, double lessons)?
Which parts of the portal are you missing?
Bug reports and ideas are welcome here in the thread or as an issue on GitHub. Thanks for trying it out!
Amazing, trying it out right now. First thing i noticed is that in the settings most entries are not shown again if i open it a second time, so i do not know ist they have been saved or not.
Sign in and fetching seem to work, calendar is visible
Thanks for trying it and for the quick feedback! That’s a bug in v0.9.0: the new collapsible sections in the settings dialog made the form show empty fields instead of the stored values. It’s fixed in v0.9.1 (released shortly after). Please update via HACS (if it doesn’t show up yet, use ⋮ → “Update information” in HACS), restart Home Assistant and open the settings again. If you saved the settings while on 0.9.0, please check them once, because some values may have been reset.
If the fields are still empty on 0.9.1, could you tell me your Home Assistant version? Then I’ll dig further.
Thanks for the work!
Sing-In and fetching data works great. Dashboards show the expected information.
Just a note: There’s also an official software program called “Schulmanager” that’s used by schools in Bavaria. I’m familiar with it from our elementary school. That could cause some confusion.
Is there a way to map the teacher abbreviations to their actual names? The abbreviations are listed in the Elternportal under Services → Stundenplankürzel der Lehrkräfte.
