Belkin Wemo - standby/current_power_w

Hi All,

Over the weekend I setup automation using a Belkin Wemo Insight switch.
I’m using the current_power_w value. For testing I had this saved to a sensor in HASS.

This was working for a while.
HASS was reporting power consumption of the switch when the device was off, idle, and running (it’s a washing machine).

I’m now noticing that when the washing machine is idle, or off, the Wemo is in a standby state and is not sending power consumption ot HASS.

Not sure if this is a HASS issue, or an issue with the Wemo.

As mentioned, it’s now no longer working. I did perform an upgrade of HASS to the latest release, but not sure if it had ceased working before then.

This is now what I see for the Belkin.

Blockquote
state_detail: standby
on_latest_time: 00d 00h 00m 00s
on_today_time: 00d 00h 00m 00s
on_total_time: 00d 00h 00m 00s
power_threshold_w: 2
friendly_name: Belkin Wemo - Washing Machine

Any thoughts? What’s perplexing is that this WAS working.

In the Wemo app, I think you can set the ‘off’ wattage - check to see it is a reasonable amount?

Unfortunatley 2W is as low as it can be set.
Strangely, it was working with this being set at 2W. However is now not.

I dont know if HASS isn’t being sent the current_power_w, or whether the upgrade to HASS and possibly Wemo components is now ignoring the value if the switch is in standby state.

Further… If i plug an Iron in to the Wemo and force the current power wattage to exceed 2W then HASS shows the current_power_w value.

I use mine on a hot tub and have it set to 7w. Basically at 7w it is idle and goes up to 50w when only the pump and 2kw when heating. HA shows me the values…I’m having issues with a sensor for translating the X kw today in to cost today

      wemo_energy_cost_today:
        value_template: '{{ sensor.wemo_energy_today | float *0.135 | round (-1) }}'
        friendly_name: 'Hot Tub Cost Today'
        unit_of_measurement: '£'

…but that is another topic

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reminder.

Just to close this one out.

I contacted Belkin. They (after a little bit of troubleshooting) agreed with me that my device was faulty.
I returned it to place of purchase for a new unit, and so far I haven’t had any issues.
