Best detect resolution

Right now my detect resolution for my one camera setup with Frigate and a Coral Accelerator is width: 1280, height: 720 and fps: 10. My Amcrest camera specs are 3840 x 2160 (1 fps – 15 fps). Would I be able to increase the detect resolution? What would be a good number? What benefit would that have? Any downside?

Many thanks.

What options does the camera have for the sub-streams? That sub-stream is what you want to use, and you should match the resolution it’s sent at.

Here is some info from the docs on detect resolution: Camera setup | Frigate
Increasing the resolution for detect will noticeably increase cpu usage for each stream (and not necessarily improve accuracy). Yes, you can adjust the substream resolution on most Amcrest cameras, although if it is a “Smart Home” camera it may be a little more difficult. With most cameras it is either in the web UI or NVR settings under Camera - Encode - Encode Mode.

What model Camera is it and also what are you using as far as CPU power.

Thanks, I saw that Frigate setup. The camera is an Amcrest IP8M-2496EW-V2. The NUC is Intel Core i7 7th Gen.

It looks like maybe the setting it’s on now might be the best.

Thanks again.

Looks like the frame rate is:
Main Stream: 3840 x 2160 (1 fps – 15 fps)
2688 x 1520 (1 fps – 25/30 fps)
Sub Stream: 704 x 576 (1 fps – 25 fps)
704 x 576 (1 fps – 30 fps)

Thanks for the reply.
