Looking to implement some monitoring for my HVAC system and looking at either the Aeotec Energy Monitor Gen 5 or Aeotec Home z Energy Meter 8.
From what I can tell they would both do the trick, with professional installation. What doesn seem clear is the Gen5 explicitly says it can monitor two circuits... Which would be nice because I could attach the other one to the hot water heater. The 8 seems to promote it's solar monitoring as it's differentiator, which I don't need.
Can anyone tell me from experience how well these would do at monitoring electricity usage for my HVAC system and if either the 5 or the 8 would be better? Thank you?
Can I ask what specifically you mean by monitoring? Do you just want energy usage monitoring or something else. Sounds like you are talking about energy monitoring.
In that case you could use any CT clamp based device that supports the number of electrical phases used by your HVAC. You might not need any professional installation either. I personally use a Shelly 3EM (gen 1) that's 5ish years old now. I installed it myself.
Yeah that's exactly what I'm trying to do... Just track energy usage and cost. I wouldn't mind trying that Shelly device you have just because I've never tried that brand and have heard good things.
