Hi is there a recomended list of best indoor cameras for use in homeassistant /frigate
I am looking for ones that have good built in speaker so ca n havd 2 way conversations
With good resolution. Will use them for detection and security
Also is there a good outdoor cam suggestion
Currnntly i am Using tplink tapo cameras inside and outside but not so pleased with the performance
Hi, reolink are good and at good price. There is IA detection that’s works well. No need of frigate if you accept that images go to the cloud…
I second the Reolink choice. Just installed three indoor (one with PTZ) and three outdoor cameras (including a 180 degree two lens camera), and couldn’t be happier. Spent years with Amcrest and Blue Iris in my previous home with mixed results.
I put local memory cards in each camera, and also backup the files to my Synology NAS, via FTP. Reolink has an excellent Home Assistant integration as well as a nice Desktop application. No need for a separate NVR if you don’t want one.

It’s reasonable. Not going to win any broadcast awards, but if your intent is to chase off someone on your front porch, or tease your dog into believing you’re home… it’s adequate. I mean how much fidelity can you expect from a speaker that’s probably no bigger than the lens? The microphones on each of my cameras are fair. Good enough that I don’t bother to record audio when it’s windy out. The interior camera’s audio is better because it’s not competing with much surrounding noise.
In a nutshell, Reolinks value is in the image quality, frame rates, and its Platinum integration with Home Assistant. But in my opinion, Audio functionality is just a check box for them.
