Best Method for migrating from older Zwave controller

I have an old HomeSeer Z-Wave controller that is identified as a QuickStick Combo. I have bought a Zooz 800LR to replace it.

The HomeSeer has a firmware that is too old to use the Migrate function. I have looked at updating the firmware, and it is possible, but requires shorting a pin on the board multiple times and I would like to avoid that if possible.

I have tried adding the new controller as a new Hub, but HA doesn’t let me do that. It says to reconfigure or migrate. If I reconfigure and select the new controller, HA says “The connected USB device is not the same as previously configured for this config entry. Please instead create a new config entry for the new device.”

How do I create a new config entry? Is it now possible to have both controllers active while I move devices from one to the other?

Thanks

I made this exact transition a couple years ago - it took some time but the results were well worth the effort!

About how many devices do you have on your existing HS Z-Wave controller? If it’s 30 or less, manually moving them one at a time is likely your best approach. If it’s way more, then more complex options may be worth exploring.

Yes, I believe it’s possible to have both controllers active while moving. Remember the z-wave network connection details are stored in the controller itself. So moving each device involves removing it from the old controller then adding it to the new one, at which time it will get a new Node ID and look to find nearby neighbors (on the new controller) to build it’s new mesh network. So don’t start with your most remote (farthest away from the controller) devices or they may not be able to communicate clearly to the new hub. Start with at least some close-by powered devices to enable the new mesh to be built up nicely.

I still don’t have a path forward that I can find. It won’t let me install a second Z-Wave integration or a second Z-Wave hub, and it won’t let me reconfigure the existing to the new stick.

Right now, I think that removing all the devices from the current stick, deleting the Z-Wave Integration and starting over is best path forward.

There is an option to Add a second Z-Wave integration and that ended up working for moving my devices.

Thanks.
