First off does any one know of a mini split make/model that has wifi integration and supports mqtt or gasp already has an HA integration?
If not then how about a make/model that makes it possible/realtively easy to create a bridge. For example I assume most of the controllers use IR in which case one could hack a in/out ir blaster device/bridge.
Or maybe there are some that have bus plug for wired control device with some documentation.
Anyway lots of models out there. Just need to purchase one I can develop a controller for.
The Pioneers have a 25-35$ wifi adapter that works with Tuya. I imagine it’s an ESP8266 inside but haven’t done the work to find out. If so, you could probably put ESPHome or Tasmota on if. Or maybe local Tuya?
Or, if you’re okay with the cloud integration, use Tuya’s API directly, or if mainly wanting HA integration, use the Tuya integration.
What is lacking in the default HA climate controls is turning off the display, and probably other things, as there are a dozen plus buttons on the remote.
I ended up buying and installing a pioneer and bought a wired controller. I haven’t had time to determine how the wired connection works nor hack the IR. There honesty aren’t many commands involved. If I can hack the wired thermostat I can determine how to talk to it directly and use that knowledge to set up an esp instead. Still IR just seemed easier because it’s easier to determine codes from the remote.
I installed a ceiling cassette, which is what the wired controller goes to (only ceiling cassette models)
Sadly no I did not hack on it, just too many projects on the plate and that was a low priority, but I have installed 4 pioneers now and as far as quality for the money and support and fulfillment these are good units sold by good company (just don’t wait to AC season to order).
BTW certain wall units come with a wifi dongle. You probably need to set it up through their app/cloud (nethomeplus) (downside), but it might be compatible with a home protocol HA already talks to. Problem is they always seem out of stock.

Is there a public API available for this dongle? I’d really like to integrate this into a SmartThings setup.
“NetHome Plus” is the name of the application.

You need comas and quote marks for emphasis! Nothing but RED marks for your texting grammar, David!
Like this “a mini[-]split . . . that’, . . . GASP ,’ already has an HA integration?”
This is a great start. My 15 year-old central air-conditioning blew-up. I used HA to take the house from 85F to 74F as I was flying home from vacation, and the AC blew-up (I killed it) along the way. Maybe if I had taken the temp down in phases with rest periods for the damn thing. At 63, I know the feeling, but it’s too late now. I am looking into replacing my broken central AC with ductless mini-split systems compatible with HA. Thanks brothers and sisters. As Las Vegas, Nevada, is home, I don’t need a gas furnace, just great AC.
