Best protocol to control Aircon

I am looking at options to control my existing ducted aircon system with Home Assistant. The system is Livezi branded by I believe it’s actually Sygnal. The company that supports the system has sent me though an integration guide which I’ve put a copy of here.

The way I read this document the following protocols are available:

  • ASCII RS485 & RS232
  • Modbus TCP/IP Slave
  • Modbus RTU Master

Is my understanding correct and if so are any of these better/easier to integrate with Home Assistant?

well, the Modbus TCP is probably the most straight forward

Modbus RTU is for controlling devices connected to the system. The RS485/232 requires you to connect a serial cable between the controller and your HA server.

Thanks for the info. Straight forward is good  I note there is a Modbus integration for HA so I’ll start having a read up on that. When looking through the supplied integration doco it looked complicated but hopefully it makes sense when I start playing with it.

Connecting a serial cable isn’t unachievable but not ideal.
