I’m currently using a TP-Link Archer MR500 as my main router. I have 7 Wi-Fi cameras plus around 30+ other Wi-Fi devices running 24/7.
There are times when I feel like the router is reaching its limits, especially when friends come over and several additional devices connect to my Wi-Fi.
At the moment, I’m considering two routers: the TP-Link Archer BE550 and the GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) based on my research.
I’m in the UK, so my house has fairly thick brick walls. My furthest camera is located about 2 rooms away from the router, and from time to time it struggles with the Wi-Fi signal.
Could you give me some advice on which would be the better option for my setup? Are there any other routers or solutions on the market that I should consider within a £150–£200 budget?
Hi, depending on the physical situation, it might be better not to look for another router with WiFi, but disable WiFi on the router and build a reliable WiFi network with AP’s.
There are models that split the connection between each-other from connections to the end devices.
Unifi is nice and I use it but I am wanting to move away from it now.
I would prefer if management was at the device and didn’t require a central server. I feel it creates issues but honestly never use alternative to compare. I stopped using the unifi router way back.
If you have coaxial in the walls between the locations then look at MoCA adapters to allow them to be used as ethernet runs then setup dedicated AP’s in black spots around the home to get the best coverage for your WiFi using the coax and ethernet as a hardline backhaul back to the main router hosting the network.
