I am also using conbee with direct zha support.
This makes the phoscon app unnecessary.

I know this is an old post but I was searching for a zigbee solution with a Google search and I found your question…
I think your solution, with the deCONZ, is a good idea so I may go with it too.

Like you, I’ve got my Home Assistant on a virtual serveur (VMWare) and my question was : why didn’t you created another VM and connect your deCONZ directly on your virtual server ? Is there a reason ?
Or maybe directly to your hassio VM ?

For VM i recommend using LAN Coordinator, just supply the IP to Z2M or ZHA and is done.
No any USB Passthrough.
I know 2 solutions available now:

  1. TubeZB
  2. ZigStar

Both of them working perfectly with VM’s
