There you go a little house with smoke coming out the top like a link. The house is on fire due to me ignoring the current rating on a power socket.
@spiro - Looks like an anchor holding us back…
Or yeah, maybe it is smoke being used as a link, like smoke signals to alert us.
Well home is a type of anchor.
Oh , now I look at it. It reminds me of a keychain or a charm braclet.
So anybody not likeing the logo have a go designing one and posting it.
The new logo is the new logo of Nabu Casa, not the logo for Home Assistant Link.

It’s still a cloud, no matter what you call it. Going anti-cloud is specifically why I chose to use Home Assistant. While I don’t plan to pay for your cloud/link at any point in the future, I’d still like to support Nabu Casa monetarily. I really appreciate the improvements I’ve seen to Home Assistant and the hardware Nabu Casa has made around it. Is there a way I can provide monetary support without having to connect to your cloud/link?
Are you sure it’s Nabu Casa you want to support? They are a commercial partner of the the Open Home Foundation. The Open Home Foundations own the software products like Home Assistant, Music Assistant, ESPHome etc.
Anyways, to support the Open Home Foundation, you can buy the licensed stuff from their commercial partners Nabu Casa or Apollo Automation, or you can buy merchandise as soon as the merchandise store is up again ![]()
Should have been proof-read after posting
.
Buy merch or just subscribe without using it…
I also struggled to read that part. Felt like it was designed to be in a two column table for comparison?
You clarified your thinking well and as a couple of others have pointed out the data harvesting accusations are toward the “cloud” services offered to individuals and not the infrastructure providers themselves.
Believe that paying for this cloud/link subscription without using the service is the only direct way for an end-user to provide monetary support directly to the Open Home Foundation.
But there is currently a problem with that if you want to provide a higher amount each month than a single subscription as then you would need to create multiple accounts which is a pain to handle.
I actually wish there was a way that we could choose to pay for multiple cloud/link subscriptions from the same account, as right now you can only pay for a single cloud/link subscription per account.
The only other way end-users can contribute money to the Open Home Foundation is as already mentioned to buy merchandise from their merch store and buying officially branded hardware from their commercial partners.
However if you represent a company or a large organization interested in making a significant donation to the Open Home Foundation then you can contact them and make arrangements about possible ways for donating money directly.
I posted a seperate feature request discussion for this, however since this is in practice more of a suggestion idea to Nabu Casa perhaps someone at the Open Home Foundation can redirect this?
In summery, please allow each single Nabu Casa account account to hold/handle several Home Assistant Cloud / Home Assistant Link subscriptions. Both to enable a single account to handle multiple Home Assistant instances and as another method for individuals to donate monet to OHF.
sorry to ask, £6.10 current Nabu Casa, Blog Screenshot of new price at £6.50… price rise or exchange rate ?
Luckily, the cloud-to-butt browser extension will never stop being funny.
No politics. Thanks.
I like the cloud, I also like Home Assistant, if I ever leave Home Assistant is because I don’t want to invest any time in automating/making smart my home and I want AI and the cloud to do it all. Automate the home without any effort should be the goal of Home Assistant not leaving the cloud. This fanatisism against the cloud culture you have created is a real turn off to me.
It’s not as much about the cloud in general as it’s about privacy and ownership. Nabu Casa is a cloud service (SaaS) after all. The issue is with certain cloud services (not as such cloud providers) that owns you and your data (privacy and trust), and paying perpetual subscription fees (ownership). Lastly there’s also the day they can pull the plug and you’re left stranded.
Your preference should not starve others from their right to choose.
I just put a firewall rule in my router (my remote access is only IPv6 since I’m CGNAT’d), and pointed my domain name at it. Boom, remote access for the cost of a domain name.
And then I bought a subscription cause they do good work ![]()
Even by undertstanding the thoughts behind, I would still call it a cloud. It’s not the technology that has a bad behavior, it’s how it is used. But the same is also valid for web pages, smartphones, etc… Instead of leaving… be a role model how the technology shall be used. Name it “Trusted Cloud” or something like that. Show how it can be used while it respects privacy.
