BMW Connected Drive Integration No Longer Working

This discussion should be continued in thread:

BMW integration: No support from September for thirtparty providers like HA - Third party integrations - Home Assistant Community

Because that is what is happening. BMW blocked the API used by the integration. It also provides an alternative API. We should focus on supporting creating an integration for that API.

I have send a complain to BMW Netherlands and had a long conversation with a IT-consultant. They said that the change was due security issues, but that is bullshit (i have said so) and development to the customer.
I explained him that the early adopters of BMW EV-driving had no BMW solution and found a HA solution and they missed now. Also the extra costs was NL not aware (??)
The person said that HA is on his list of parties to contact and solve. He keep me informed and he is reporting me complains back to BMW Germany.
To be continued.

In case BMW is watching this, I’d also like to add my voice as another user that is extremely disappointed and negtively impacted by this. I hope a solution is found soon.

Pretty sad and disappointed. To be very clear: A good HA integration is a big decision criterion for me buying a product. That includes my car(s). Can’t understand that move BMW. Will open my view for alternatives in my garage.

Software and BMW.
I’m disapointed about the Car Software (driver assistance rules over driver, no lane controle with trailer… much better with AUDI).
And now this shut down of a good interface.
I’m more and more convinced that it is not “Freude am Fahren” but mor a looking forward to change brand.

I did it: Here the reply of BMW:

"Following BMW’s recent update to strengthen digital security and data protection, interfaces that allowed external services to access remote vehicle functions via customer credentials have been deactivated.

With the new “Laden per Fernzugriff” function, compatible electricity providers can control the charging process directly via the vehicle. A new interface (API) secured and provided by the BMW Group is used for this purpose. The only requirement on the customer side for controlled charging during low-price time slots is a suitable electricity tariff contract with one of the compatible electricity providers. Any electricity provider willing to comply with the security standards and contractual conditions can be accepted by the BMW Group as a compatible electricity provider. The aim is to offer users a high degree of flexibility in their choice of electricity provider as the number of compatible providers increases.

Please also take a look at the new BMW CarData API, which has been available since 12 September: CarData Customer Portal.

We, the My Home labs team, are not affiliated with the ‘BMW Connected Drive’ integration for Home Assistant nor the BMW CarData API.

Therefore, we would like to provide some additional context on why our Home app beta, which many see as a replacement, has certain limitations:

The app is currently a pre-development beta with an expected lifespan of 6–12 months and is not an official product. We see it more as a testing ground targeted towards tech-savvy Home Assistant users.

It currently supports iDrive versions 7, 8 and 8.5, is only available in Germany with a limited number of vehicle signals accessible in Home Assistant and does not offer any remote vehicle functions while parked.

Unfortunately, we are unable to enroll you in the beta if you do not meet these requirements, but we will keep you updated if we expand the availability or functionality of our beta."

This. Came from Tesla to i4. Honestly the UX is awful, illogical, counter intuitive, slow and restrictive. The driveability is also a long way behind the market leaders. And now this BS. The moment my lease is done I will move to a brand that understands software and electronic control systems.

Continuing the discussion from BMW Connected Drive Integration No Longer Working:

Hi guys, i just did a smart home system yesterday, and i already having issues with the car apps, for example the mercedes app doesn’t work either (avalable in HACS) if anyone got a solution please share it. the BMW web app it doesn’t work with I4, G26 420d, IX,

Looks like these were my last BMWs. I really enjoyed the cars but I feel more and more that BMW is becoming an evil company, just like IBM, MicroSoft etc.
The justification of removing the integration is flawed and without any investigation on how people are actually using their API. The chinese are producing nowadays a luxurous car at the lass of a BMW 7 series for the price of series 3, they have good APIs but lack security, thus I will most likely not get one from them. I doubt however that I will get another BMW as well, since the competition seems to make better and more informed decisions on the customer satisfaction side. OOOO
