The best thing ever created for HA users. It allows less technical users to do what advanced users//devs already do. And it helps lazy/busy advanced users creating things quickly.
I’m refactoring all my dashboards using some nice UI components and Claude is excellent in studying these components and using them in HA dashboards. My HA looks completely different, more modern, and this in a couple of days (2-3h per day).
I’ve read this topic all over, and still wondering how to get started.
I would love to use this, and would like to get started, but none the less I do not fully grasp if I really need this and what it’s advantages are over other MCP projects.
What exactly are you asking? Are you asking for help setting it up, or are you asking for use cases?
Because I can say that Claude integration into HA has been a game changer for me. I’m not a programmer and I’m not interested in becoming one, so using Claude has allowed me to extend Home Assistant in ways that I never imagined. It’s not without its issues, and you’ll probably have to have Claude Pro for any meaningful effort, but it’s truly kindof magical.
And this isn’t about “Claude, turn on the lights.” I have automations set up for that. This is about “I want to create an automation that takes a photo of my dog, runs it through ComfyUI to generate a new image based on the time of day and the current weather, then puts it on several of my existing dashboards.” Claude walked me through the entire process from scratch.
I've got it working and my claude desktop is now able to connect to my HA enviroment.
Im about to to connect chatgpt codex aswel. But i really would like to write some context about how i did setup my house in home assistant. Now i can ofcourse tell claude desktop to save that in its memory, but that would mean i have to do the same for all my other AI's.
@hans80 / @mennzo / @stefan1982 : Sorry for the delay. I was not watching this thread anymore. If you are still interested, you should use the github issue or discussion here:
I am following these instructions Home Assistant MCP Setup Wizard but failing on starting the http server via uvx with the following error:
HOMEASSISTANT_URL
Value error, Home Assistant URL must start with http:// or https:// [type=value_error, input_value='{{http://homeassistant.local:8123}}', input_type=str]
Replace these placeholders (delete the surrounding [object Object] braces too):
Replace {{HOMEASSISTANT_URL}} (braces and all) with your Home Assistant URL (e.g., http://homeassistant.local:8123)
