I would like to create a dashboard for my son to listen to ‘local’ audio files (carefully curated, tagged and album art’ed audiobooks and podcasts, stored on a network drive). This would then run on an Android tablet (possibly using Fully Kiosk Browser as the player provider).
I set up Music Assistant, without fully understanding what it actually does, because it appeared to be the de-facto standard audio playback solution for HA.
(Which is to say that I’m not commited to MA – I’m also willing to switch to another system if Music Assistant cannot do this!)
I got playback working and the audio files integrated, but I couldn’t find any card that would provide a way to select an audio file from the MA database. Did I miss anything?
I managed to set up playback using the Maxi Media Player card. It even has media selection support, but my understanding is that this isn’t compatible with Music Assistant because MA does not ‘publish’ its media library into HA’s Media Sources/Media tab, correct?
How are y’all dealing with this? Are you only ever using voice assistants to pick music from MA? Or only playing the same three Spotify playlists that you’ve manually created dashboard buttons for?
My preferred visualization would be some kind of swipeable list of albums (series/podcasts in my case) that is using the album art. I was thinking maybe horizontal scrolling through the albums and then vertically to select episodes from that ‘album’. Thinking of the iPod Classic’s Cover Flow here.
But honestly, I’d take anything at this point.
I would even accept using a non-HA Android audio player app, but couldn’t really find anything simple that plays local(-ish) audio files either.
I don’t need any queue support, he’ll only ever pick a specific track (episode) and afterwards it could maybe continue with the episode following in the same series.
I do feel like it needs to somehow remember current track and possibly even last playback position in that track across playback sessions.
