A couple months ago I setup automations with my Tapo cameras to take a snapshot and include that image on notifications upon motion detection. It’s been working fine. However, the past several days I’m no longer receiving the image preview. The notification comes through fine, but no media. I’ve not changed the automation, but a few Core updates have been applied.
Was curious if anything has changed with a core update I missed?
For instance, one camera is taking a snapshot and storing here: /media/garageinterior.jpg
Then, the notification to my phone is using the following data:
TTL: 0
priority: high
image: /media/local/garageinterior.jpg
Again, this has been working fine, so I don’t know why it’s stopped. This occurs inside my LAN / network and outside.
Are you on iOS or Android? That looks like android syntax.
On iOS this still works, but I notice that I have to expand the notification (by holding down, or swiping down on it when it comes) at which point it loads for a second or so before showing the image. Plus, the thumbnails don’t show when they first come in…
I’m sure it’s something broken partially in the name of “security”.
I’m on iOS actually. This method was the only way I could get a snapshot to show on my notification. I’m sure it stopped working after a recent Core or O/S upgrade. I just don’t know what to change.
The snapshots are still being saved, I can browse to the media folder and the images there are current, it’s just not sending the image anymore with the iOS notification.
I will try long pressing the notification next time to see if the image was included. Previously, the image was on the far right side of the notification.
Is there perhaps a better method to do this for iOS that I overlooked? I switched from Android to iOS earlier this year and like I mentioned this was the only way I could get it working initially.
I don’t think so…like you said, the snapshots used to show up immediately as thumbnails.
Now, in my experience, just hold down and when it expands, your image should load.
I tested it, and you are right. Holding down on the notification does indeed expand and the image is there. So something changed with notifications because it’s now hiding the image thumbnail until you expand it, but at least it is actually working. My mistake for not realizing you could press and hold.
Not your fault - you’re new to iOS-land
Plus, the thumbnail preview used to work, which is mildly annoying that it stopped.
