Is it possible/recommended to install a Raspberry PI 5 in a Home Assistant Yellow?
Thanks!
Sorry I realize that the HA yellow requires a PI compute module and it looks like the PI 5 compute module has not been released yet. Any idea if it will be supported by the HA yellow hardware when it does come out?
Last I heard that has not been confirmed or tested.
I believe if you got your hands on one, it would be CURRENTLY considered
But when you read this, who knows if it works or not or is tested or not.
it is finally available, https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/compute-module-5/?variant=cm5-104032 .
so is it/will it work just by swapping the module?
I spotted this article which seems to imply you can just swap the module (assuming you have a CM with no onboard memory and are just using an NVMe… if you have onboard memory then you need to install Home Assistant on the CM, but it sounds straightforward).
Caveat: I haven’t tried this yet but am planning to.
If upgrading a Yellow from Pi4 to Pi5 is possible, I am keen. Having recently purchased the Voice Preview device, it would be nice to have more processor power available in my Home Assistant Yellow for the local STT and TTS.
EDIT: there’s a guide here… Home Assistant Yellow Upgrade
but, unless I’m missing the detail, it only describes how to remove and install the compute module and does not appear to detail what you need to do with respect of the HA software running on an NVMe.
EDIT: All the info we need is here: Home Assistant Yellow gets CM5 support in HAOS 14 - Home Assistant
