Can I install Home Assistant within my Raspberry Pi OS Desktop version?

Hi everyone,

I know this might be a basic question, but since I’m new to this, I’m trying to figure out how to get the most out of Home Assistant.

I’m aware that I can install Home Assistant from scratch, and the installation guide explains the steps clearly.

However, what I want to know is: Can I install Home Assistant on my existing Pi OS Desktop version?

Why I want to do this:

  • I’m using shared drives on my current OS, and I don’t want to disrupt that setup.
  • My Raspberry Pi 5 is also my go-to device for downloading large files (e.g., games over 100GB) overnight, so I don’t have to use my gaming PC just for downloading crazy large files (Saving some energy).
  • I download torrent files and have a torrent client installed, which is essential for me.
  • I also use Pi Connect to access my Raspberry Pi remotely.

So, is it possible to install Home Assistant as an app within the Pi OS Desktop version without affecting my current setup?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

No.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the answer, But is there any workaround ?

Buy another pi (the answer is still no).

Never tried this but can’t see why it won’t work,

Untrue as I have done it successfully. It was a struggle, and I need to do it again and document it better so I can pass it on to others.
And you might want to be less curt in your answers to people asking legitimate questions.
