Can I restore old HA version backup to the latest HA installation?

I’m running one of my HA installations without an update for more than a year now. It was simple installation and it doesn’t required any updates as everything was working without a single issue. Unfortunately, it seems that my SD card (HA runs on Pi3) died just recently, and I had to setup a new installation to which I thought will be able to restore my backups. New installation is working great, but whenever I tried to restore my old system backups to latest HA OS installation, HA is never coming back online.
I guess this might be due to HA installation differences between what is the backup taken for and what that backup is tried to be restored to. I don’t even remember what HA version I was running on that machine. Is it possible to get that info (HA version) from the backup files? If I could just figure out what I was running on that installation I could probably go for older HA version and then restore from my backup. Anyone any idea? Suggestion?

You need to restore the initial version & then upgrade so the configuration gets upgraded too. Be sure to research any breaking changes in all the Release Notes in between.

Thanks a lot. That is exactly what I thought. But … Is there any way to find out HA version from a backup files?

Sorry, I do not use HaOS or Supervised.
