So my aim with Home Assistant is to hopefully have my home setup automated, but to no longer have Google and Alexa spying on me. I have things like lights mostly, a smart lock and a Ring doorbell are the only things that might NEED outside access, so I would like to silo my whole setup. I’m correct in thinking that’s what this Speaker Hub will let me do, correct?
Next, I’ll have to figure out how to make that part work, but I don’t want to bang my head against the wall if I can’t do it. The model # is: YS1604
No, I don’t want a “cloud”. I want a home system where I can give all of my voice commands, without coporations listening in on every word I say. I’ve been told for decades that “open source” is the way to not have this happen. Maybe I’ve been repeatedly lied to?
Either way, my aim is to have all of the “Hey assistant, turn on ‘X’.” without anything spying on me. My home setup consists of various lights that I want to be able to turn on/off, change the cvolor, or change the brightness of with voice commands, but with the exception of my Ring doorbell, and maybe the option to remotely unlock the door, these items need no internet access.
I want just my home system to listen for voice commands. I don’t currently use my Google devices to do more than turn lights on and off. I’m old enough that I’m still used to looking up things like the weather and music manually… I guess it’s also worth mentioning that the only music I stream is either YouTube or SiriusXM. Most of my music is local, and my movie server will be as well.
So I really want to keep all of my stuff in-house. No need to spread my digital footprint any further than is absolutely necessary. I hope this explains my aims well, but feel free to ask followup querstions if I missed somethging…
