Can I use the Tuya app for Tapo plugs?

I have a question about the Tuya app (that is the normal Tuya app from the iOS app store, not the “Tuya local” configuration I have read about as well).

I use it to switch on and off a WiFi heater which is meant to be controlled with that app.

I also have some TP-Link (“Tapo”) WiFi wall plugs switching other appliances in the house. At the moment I control the TP-Link devices with the Tapo app. However, I would like to control these TP-Link plugs with the Tuya app instead.

How can I do this?

(PS: I am not sure whether this here is the right forum for my question, because my question is not Home Assistant-related. I have seen though that here lots of Tuya-related threads are published, so I thought this could be a good place to get information about Tuya. If this is wrong, I apologise for posting in the wrong p[lace!)

Yeah, not really the right place. But I don’t see any way that the Tuya app would be able to control a TP Link device. Ironically, this is precisely the situation Home Assistant can solve very easily, by controlling both directly. But honestly quite overkill if that’s your only use-case…

When you called Tuya Support to ask about Tapo, were they rude or impolite? How about when you called Tapo about Tuya devices? I know when i called BMW about replacing my stolen hood Rolls Royce badge, they laughed at me and hanged up the phone.

You do realize they are completely different manufacturers, don’t you, and that the only thing they have in common is the first letter of their product is a capital T and they both have products that feature quite often in these forums as having problems.

A good place to understand about their products is to visit the vendor website. There you will find how they are supposed to work. On these forums you will only find most of the chatter is about how they don’t work.

Not sure why You would do that, i have both “Types” of Devices, And in HA, Tapo in Native TP-Link integration is Local-Polling, where as Tuya is Cloud-Push

Yes you can use Local-Tuya or Tuya-Local integrations( In HA ), Thou it won’t give You much benefits. You are still Very depended upon a Cloud Connection for certain Tuya Devices
Tapo is superior to Tuya, in both reliability and functionality and stability, Why do You even think about (trying to) add them to the Tuya-Cloud ?

Not sure why they would - BMW is the parent company of Rolls Royce. Bad example here methinks!

Cool. Good to know.

Yes, of course, but in the Tuya app I get, when Adding a device a very generic list:

So I thought Tuya might support all sorts of devices…

Well, I don’t really care whether I add my Tuya heater to the Tapo app, or the Tapo plugs to the Tuya app, I just want only one app!

But this might not be possible…

No, in fact with HA, You then get a 3rd Phone-App  , thou then you can control all from this HA-App … which you btw also can do with Tuya-Tapo in Google Home( You can add Devices from Both “Brands” to Google-Home )

How ever With HA, You get Alot more Options, and “flexibility” … To the Cost of endless Hours of “tinkering”, fixing and frustrations

So does Tuya!
Wishful thinking on their part, and don’t be sucked in - there ARE other vendors out there that do make home automation devices.

HomeAssistant is the puppeteer that pulls all the strings together.
