I’ve got a Thread network using Home Assistant Skyconnect, Open Thread Border Router and running Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi. I previously connected one Eve Energy smartplug and other than the occasional issue with the plug being on the edge of the range of the Skyconnect it’s been working fine.
I’ve decided to use the sales at the moment to expand the Thread network so bought a few more Eve Energy smartplugs.
I tried multiple times to add one of the new smartplugs to Home Assistant via the Android companion app. This worked fine until the last step when it said Matter wasn’t installed on Home Assistant.
After searching around I found suggestions that I should sync the Thread credentials in the Android companion app. When I did this I got a messages saying “The Home Assistant server does not support Thread”. I tested this on both my phone and tablet and got the same results.
I then logged in to the companion app as my admin user account and was able to sync the credentials and add the new smartplug flawlessly.
Is this behaviour to be expected? I don’t think I logged in to the companion app as an admin when I added the first smartplug. If so, I don’t think the error message when syncing credentials communicates that this is a permissions issue.
