Can’t connect to hostname.local:8123

I’m new to ha and tried many different ways to connect. I have a raspberry pi4b running ha os and a nortek usb plugged in it. Both are connected to a router that’s connected to my school network. All are using Ethernet connection. I can ping the raspberry pi. However when I try to run either ip or hostname for the link it does not work and returns a site can’t be reached and that 192.168.8.164(the ip address of the raspberry pi) refused to connect(check the connection and checking the proxy and firewall) the router I’m using is a GL iNet.

Hi @john.sheffield

Can you try putting each of these into the address bar at the top of your web browser:

http://homeassistant.local:8123

http://192.168.8.164:8123

and see what happens

  1. What does the display say when you connect a hdmi display to it?
  2. Can you simply ping it?
  3. Since it is a school network - are settings so configured that maybe each computer cannot ping each other for security purposes (subnetting masks)?
Have you tried pinging one Computer to another?

For me this could be a case of “works as designed” since it is a non-private network which might have special features just like an enterprise network.
