Recently received my CYD in the mail that arrived with a fairly damaged screen but the ESP32 was still intact. Is it possible to salvage this or does it have to get chucked?
Of course. Is it worth the trouble? Probably not. Esp32 dev board costs few bucks.
@Karosm What trouble do you envision there being? Is it not as simple as flashing the device with ESPHome and ignoring the display?
Likely yes, just verify there’s no short circuit anywhere and nothing is heating up excessively.
I mean that the board is big and have very few free pins exposed, not the most practical for general use.

@Karosm thanks for confirming! Yes definitely want to be avoiding an electrical fire etc!
But yea I’m thinking of just using it as a test device when flashing new things for different projects or just sitting it in a corner as a presence sensor. Likely never going to connect any other parts to it.
I don’t see problem then.
It’s always good idea to repurpose devices instead of increasing electronics trash.
