Cannot pair any new device

Hi,

Im having problems with my ZHA setup. I have many devices in my network (around 40) and they mostly work all fine. I hadn’t really try to add anything new until recently when I installed some ikea tradfi GU10 I purchased time ago and never used and a Sonoff temperature sensor (SNZB-02D, the one with display).

But for some reason I cannot manage to pair any of them. they are simply not discovered at all.

some info

  • my existing zha network work without issues
  • Im using zigbee channel 11, and avoid using the lowest channels of my 2.4ghz wifi to avoid interference.
  • I use a sonoff dongle P coordinator passed to the container that runs HASS
  • I already have a couple of devices of the models Im trying to add and they work fine. I can even repair them without issues
  • I can repair without issue any other device already in my network
  • I seem to be incapable of adding any new device (or at least the 3x tradfi bulbs and the sonoff temp sensor).
  • devices are not discovered at all (i.e. not stuck in interview stage, they never show up)
  • I’ve tried to pair them directly to the coordinator (a few cm from it) as well to multiple devices (tradfi and hue bulbs, tuya plugs, sonoff mini, etc) none work.
  • my dongle has an USB extension to avoid interference
  • my hass is up to date to the time of writing this
  • I’ve tried turning off my server, unplugging the USB dongle, etc
  • I’ve updated the firmware of my dongle to the most recent (I ran out of ideas)

Im out of ideas on what else the problem could be. I’ve tried setting the zha logs to debug but it’s soo much that I cannot honestly make sense of it. I did find some errors but they were caused by offline bulbs. after turning all my lights on I saw no obvious error.

Any idea on what I could try?

thanks!

You say you have about 40 devices. How many are routers and how many end devices?

Hi,

I had a couple (not once) of problems as well a month ago trying adding bulbs. ZHA did not discover the devices according to the web GUI (Firefox). But when I refreshed my browser and navigated to the device page of ZHA the bulbs were added after all :man_shrugging:

around 30 of them are routers.
I doubt the network quality is the issue. many bulbs and smart plugs through the entire house

I had that behavior in some cases where the pairing got stuck in the interview phase, but Im not getting even there.

How are you attempting to pair them via other devices?

Can you confirm you’re using the “Add devices via this device” option in eg. the sonoff mini device page?

yes, that is exactly what I’m doing.

I went and reflashed my coordinator with different versions of its firmware and I eventually managed to pair the tradfis using a firmware from 2022. I would not work with newer ones (I had a similar problem, some time ago but then it kinda went away).

I still cannot pair the sonoff temperature sensor, but I guess I’ll keep the old firmware

If the devices you’re having issues pairing are end-devices (battery powered, especially), some of these devices will “go to sleep” almost immediately after putting them into pairing mode. It’s silly, but sometimes you have to constantly hit a button (if it has one) on the device during pairing in order to keep it awake and make it thru the pairing process.
