I still get lost when I’m trying to setup a trigger in new automation’s using the UI. In the situation at the moment I created a helper. So now I’m trying to add it to automation as the trigger. I’ve looked in the entities category and the devices and I cant find it.
Can anyone help me to connect the dots on how to find a helper when trying to create a trigger in the UI?
I sure wish you could just type the name of the thing you want to use for a trigger and the UI would then load it as the type it is. Having to know what type something is before you can assign it is tough for some of us noobs.

What are you trying to do…? The type of trigger to use depends on both the source of information and the type of event you want to trigger on.
It doesn’t help you if we give the most general answer that a State trigger (found under the Entities category or via the trigger search bar) is most commonly used, if what you are trying to do is trigger at the time held in an Input Datetime Helper.
I created a threshold sensor, then set the sensor to a power type because the entity that the threshold sensor is based on is the amperage of a power plug.
So what trigger section would this be in?
Since Threshold sensors are binary, you will use a State trigger.
If you don’t see the sensor as an option in the entity ID field, double check that it shows up in the Entities list.
