Hi there. I am looking to mount a security camera on my gates at the end of a long driveway (1/2 mile) to my home. There is no power at the gates other than solar panels and batteries for the gates themselves. I would like to place a security camera there that at the very least sends still images as motion occurs or potentially live video. I have no way of getting an internet connection to these gates as the road is hilly and heavily treed. I have considered trail cams but would really like to know if anyone else out there has come up with a solution to a similar situation.
I think it would be great to setup an automation that throws a still or live image from the camera up on the TV when movement is detected.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have considered them but am wondering how I could integrate the output of a trail cam into my HA system? Some sort of intake via email for the still image triggering an automation?
Some theoretical ways I can think of -
if there is a developer API,
if the camera sends email with attachments, FTP, cloud storage, or similar, that should be able to be implemented in HA.
If a proprietary app must be used, a short script identifying new picture in the app’s picture storage location.
