If anyone still has this problem it looks like there is an easier way to do this by configuring application list and it doesn’t require any additional integrations.
Here is my step by step tutorial how to do this:
Go to Settings > Devices & services > Android TV Remote
Click Configure next to device for which you want to set application names.
In the pop up window select Add new from Configure Applications List and click Submit.
Now you should get another pop up window where you specify:
- Application name - the app name that you want to be displayed (eg. YouTube)
- Application icon - optional URL to app icon (will be visible in apps list after clicking Browse Media on your media player)
- Application ID - the app ID (eg. com.google.android.youtube.tv)
After filling above form click Submit and then Submit again.
Now you have one application added to the list. This way you can add all the apps installed on your TV.
If you select your app from Configure Applications List and click Submit you can edit or delete it from the list.
Your media player entity should now display the app name instead of app ID if it’s added to the app list. ![]()
