I have had my Home Assistant instance since before person entities were a thing. I ended up creating a person with the same name as my account (the admin user). I don’t remember how or why, but my user has a different avatar image than my person entity, and I would like to change it to match, buit I can’t figure out how.
On the User configuration option screen there are only fields to edit the username and password followed by some toggles, but there seems to be no way to update the image associated with the user. I don’t even remember how I managed to set it in the first place – it was several years ago.
Is there currently a way to set a user’s avatar image? Is there a way to explicitly associate a user with a particular person entity?
Maybe I’m missing something but are you saying that the user shouldn’t have an avatar picture?
this seems to be the case since I just added a test user and they don’t get a picture nor is there anywhere it looks like I can add one. I’ve poked around in my .storage directory but I can’t find anywhere obvious that the avatar picture is defined.
I think the bug should be that there isn’t any way to control the avatar picture rather than there being an avatar in the first place. unless that’s what you are saying. then never mind.
At the start of this month (December 2025), by clicking around, I got an ‘upload image?’ popup window-box from mouse-poking the user details, and to that uploaded a similar graphic image to the one which I use as an avatar on here. Poking for an additional non-owner admin user in the same way, I have not this week found The way to get the user image into that user details. I see two possibilities:
either non-owner admin users can’t have a user image
or evil minions at Home Assistant secret volcanic island headquarters have recently disabled the popup from near People (Add Person) to drag and drop in the user image.
No I’m saying that people have pictures, users do not. You can easily verify this on the users tab. The picture you see in the lower left should be the picture from the person attached to the user that’s logged in.
Upon finding that my user image is located in my www folder (local in the URL), I’m even more sure that I would have configured this image manually for the user at some point. Also, the date on the image file is in 2019, so it’s definitely been there for a while.
Restart in safe mode and see if the user profile picture changes to match your person image. If it does then you have a 3rd party resource of some description loading the user picture.
