Changing WiFi password in ESPHome

For anyone wanting to change your WiFi password and update ESPHome devices, I have just managed to successfully complete the task, admittedly only for 13 devices.

  1. Decide on your new password
  2. Update your secrets file (or each devices yaml file, if not using secrets) with the new password
  3. Install the update to each device
  4. Change the password on your WiFi network with the new one
  5. Update the password on all your other WiFi connected devices
    Hope this helps, I tried a couple of other ways and failed, then I had a light bulb moment :slight_smile:

Yep, I’ve been caught out changing Wi-fi AP password then can’t connect to the ESPHome devces to change them. Had to change the WAP back, then update ESPHome devices as you have detailed.

Also I have a different SSID downstairs in the laundry, and I have learnt the same happens there- update ESPHome configurations, install on device and then take the unit downstairs :wink:
