Changing zwave controller - procedure?

I would like to move from an aeotec to a zooz s2 z-wave controller. I can’t find the procedure to make the move. Has anyone moved from one usb zwave controller to another? Running HA supervised under proxmox using zwavejstomqtt.

I moved from a Zooz S2 700 to the Zooz S2 (yes it was backwards but the 700 firmware is still not ready for primetime imo). Nevertheless, I ended up blowing up my mesh and starting from scratch, I couldn’t find a simple way to back up and transfer. If you keep your naming scheme the same, your scripts and automations won’t need to be messed with. Just a LOT of excluding and including. Best of luck!

I guess I’m lucky that I have the older zooz S2  You’re suggesting that I just have to figure out how to exclude all my devices which, of course, are all different and then re-include them. Does not sound like fun…

Still good to think about, how you would manage such change. Once even you will have to. Your stick can fail anytime…

I have about 36 devices on my z-wave mesh, but many of them switches and outlets were from the same company, so once I figured out the include and exclude it made life a little easier for those. I did however end up building my own spreadsheet to catalog the commands/devices/models of my network so I had a nice reference manual for the future.

fortunately, zwavetomqtt panel shows manufacturer/model of each device…so I’ve now downloaded the manual for each. Now I have something to do over the weekend

I believe there is a way to make a backup of your current controller somewhere in the zwavejs2mqtt control panel.

If you can do that and then restore to new controller that would makes things way easier.

I’m not sure about, what I say now, but I think, that only works, if the swapped controllers are identical…

I am kicking myself for not doing this. All my swiches/outlets/devices (42 total) for Z-Wave, when I built out HA, I didnt think about making a spreadsheet of the QR/S2 security codes… Now I want to move from the Nortek stick (2 in 1 combo) to the Zooz S2 700. I already moved to a dedicated Zigbee stick due to MQTT2Zigbee not working with Nortek, so move to the 700 chipset is what I would like to do now that it looks like issues are resolved. I dont like that I’ll have to go one by one rebuilding all my automations and devices and network… I have years worth of building it out at this point (moved from Smartthings to Home Assistant in 2019).

I guess this is my opportunity to build the spreadsheet now. Anytime I build and design clients home or business network with vlans, ssids, subnets, firewall rules, etc… I have a spreadsheet that I fill out all the info and document it all very detailed… Why I didn’t do that for my HA implantation, I don’t know. :(. I was learning HA while building my setup, so it was a work in progress. Maybe I bite the bullet and rebuild the entire thing from the ground up now that i know everything I didnt know then… lol.

I was looking for an easy way to do this and found the following info… made the job much easier!
Migrate 500/700 Z-Wave Controllers to the ZST39 800 Series Controller
