Thankyou, these look the go. Ordered a w10u
Sad they are missing features the Nest units have had for a decade.
Stupid AU (QLD) smoke alarm rules. Essentially forcing me to move away from the nest units. (well they are going to be run in tandom until the nest units expire, I assume they are locked out after the 10yr period.)
Out of interest, what features are missing?
As an aside, one of our smoke alarms triggered a couple of weeks ago at around 2am. Needless to say, they all went off confirming they are all properly linked. Holy poop, are they loud!! After checking that there actually wasn’t a fire, it took me a few minutes to work out the source alarm so that I could silence them. Silencing at the master doesn’t work.
We called the fire brigade and told them what had happened and they decided to come and have a look and scan the roof space and walls with their thermal imaging gadget. Nothing found, so we had the peace of mind to go back to bed after they left.
Where I think Nest was a better product:
- Warning before alarming when slower buildup of detected smoke
- Voice notifications
- CO monitoring
- Smarts to avoid alarming from steam
- Build quality
Pathway lighting as well as presence detection (well motion anyway) to add to that list
Is it possible to simultaneously set up the RF interconnect between multiple units and connect each to HA via zigbee? If so, what’s the pairing method?
Is the interconnect protocol RF or ZigBee? I wasn’t aware that these units contained dual radios
They have dual radios and yes, you can simultaneously connect with both Zigbee and RF and you can also mix the wired and battery ones (I’ve got 2 wired and 6 wireless on my Zigbee network and they are also RF connected).
Good to hear, thank you
That’s excellent. I’ll go ahead and connect mine via RF then, to act as a backup in case HA/Zigbee goes belly up at the critical moment.
Let us know what firmware you get with your devices and if you have greater levels of control in HA than what I’ve documented above on my version.
As mentioned, yes first set one as primary and follow the instructions to pair the units with each other (not using a wiser home hub section).
Then pair each unit to HA following the instructions to connect to wiser home hub, add device in zigbee in HA, then click the button 3 times.
There’s two pair buttons one is the hush button and is used when linking the units, the other is the setup/reset button used to link the zigbee.
Be aware that the 755WSA (240v Round with Bu batt)doesn’t seem to have a temperature sensor.
