I am looking device to close / open water valve triggered by any flood sensors in house. Integration is obvious thing, but the device to control valve is not.
Can you recommend device which can close / open type of valve on the photo?
Hi Krzysztof, have you already seen those devices that you retrofit on an existing valves.
As far as I remember, those work with a lever that is longer and on 1 side of the rotation point.
As @Karosm is pointing out: by removing the lever (but it seemed to be sealed off so you cannot unscrew it) you would see if you can fit something else.
Another solution could be to extend one side of the lever to be able to fit something.
You mean the valve is property of some water utility company?
In that case OP should add a motorized ball valve on the private side of the water meter.
@Karosm Can you upload a picture of “motorized one” which you think about or send link to some model? I have no experience about valve solutions yet. I will have to read restrictions if there are any for valve. Probably now but who knows. I saw everywhere solutions for the one below, but not for others.
@Nick4 correct, but I have different type. On the other hand I see my type have 2 holes on left and right (red circle on photo) which should make it stable after mount right device.
@Stephenn correct me if I am wrong, but device which you linked will not work with my type of valve.
To summary this up how I understand your answers:
there is no device which can close / open this type of valve designed for Smart Home and Home Assistant integration.
Instead of trying to find such device which probably not exist or is super expensive it will be easier to replace existing one.
If 2 above are correct, then I have no choice and have to replace it.
Can you suggest the best possible device using Wi-Fi or Zigbee powered by batteries? I assume Wi-Fi will consume too much power, because it needs to be responsible and always awake, so probably only Zigbee make sense.
But if it is possible to use device on existing valve, then it should be easier task. This is my main (first in chain) valve, so I would have to figure out how to get access and close valve outside house.
Does your valve completely close when turned 90 degrees? That is what the Aqara is designed to do. If your valve is a gate valve with butterfly handle, the Aqara won’t work and I haven’t seen any valve controllers that can close a gate valve.
There is just a lot of stuff going on around your valve to know if the Aqara could be mounted. Only way to truly know is buy it and try it.
Does your valve completely close when turned 90 degrees?
yes.
That is what the Aqara is designed to do.
But for different type of valve / handle. As I understand it will not work for mine, because the center of rotation force is in different place. Mine is in the center, not on side.
edit:
Ha maybe I am wrong. There is butterfly option, but hmm I don’t know if it will work.
Yeah, when I was looking 2 months ago on YouTube, I couldn’t find anyone installing with butterfly handle option.
I had the option of this but didn’t trust a valve actuator on PVC. I ended up installing a Sharkbite Ball Valve on brass pipe. I already had Dome valve controller from previous house.
If you are allowed to attach something to it, you can change the handle to any type you like. And if the valve body has threading under the handle, there are inexpensive universal motors as well.
I don’t have experience with changing valves handles. Do you think I can unscrew handle with opened water? (no easy way to close water before this valve)
You might have screwed yourself with the authorities by removing that green seal already.
If you simply need a 90 degree turn to close off that valve, you could have simply screwed on an extension metal piece to allow the standard motorised valves to be able to close it in case of an emergency.
