It’s time to replace our smoke/CO detectors & I’d like to find something that integrates well with HA and that doesn’t depend on a vendors cloud / servers. Is there such a beast?
Which part of the world do you live in?
We’re in the USA
3ish years ago I bought a 3-pack of these for about $100:
First Alert Battery Powered Z-Wave Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm, Works with Ring Alarm Base Station, 2nd Generation - Amazon.com
Not sure why they’re so expensive now
But:
It depends which state you live in.
Because:
In some places they have to be mains-powered with backup-only batteries.
And:
It depends on the technology, of course.
The ones above are Z-Wave and they integrated nicely into my existing Z-Wave network.
Without knowing any more details it’s going to be hard to narrow down the recommendations.
I have the Fibaro smoke alarms, small, beautiful, high quality but unfortunately also very expensive. They also have CO, but I do not own them yet until my other detector is past its expiry date.
My jurisdiction requires interconnected alarms with 10-year battery backup, so at least we don’t have to worry about chirps around here. As a result I just wanted remote alerts so I got the First Alert Interconnect Relay and wired it to a Zwave sensor that trips whenever any alarm in the house fires. I also have an Ecolink Firefighter which listens for my building’s integrated fire system alarm, which I can’t modify.
Does the Fibaro integration depend on Fibaro’s infrastructure?
I’m not using the Fibro integration, it is z-wave so I integrated it though Z-wave UI / Z-wave JS.
