Command_ringer_mode does nothing on Samsung (SM-S948W) after update to One UI 9

Hi all,

command_ringer_mode no longer changes the ringer mode on my phone since I updated to One UI 9. It used to work. Other notification commands still work, so the problem seems specific to this command.

Environment

  • Phone: Samsung Galaxy [model name] (SM-S948W)
  • Android / One UI: [Android version] / One UI 9
  • Companion app version: [version, e.g. 2026.6.5-full]
  • Home Assistant Core: [version] ([HA OS, 2026.9.4])

I also tried normal and silent, with the phone set to normal ring mode beforehand and Do Not Disturb turned off.

Expected behavior: the phone switches to the requested ringer mode.

Actual behavior: nothing happens. No ringer mode change, [and no notification or popup appears / a popup with the text “command_ringer_mode” appears — keep the one that is true].

What I’ve verified

  • A regular notification (message: test) arrives correctly, so FCM and the service name are fine.
  • command_dnd works: sending command: priority_only activates Do Not Disturb, and the phone shows it was enabled by Home Assistant. So the app has the Do Not Disturb permission and does execute commands.
  • The “Sensor updates” notification channel is silent, which I understand is normal.
  • Battery optimization for the app is set to unrestricted. [confirm]
  • I turned the Do Not Disturb access off and on again for the app. [confirm]
  • [Optional: the ringer mode sensor does / does not change when I switch modes manually.]

This looks similar to this thread about a Pixel 10 Pro XL, where the command also stopped working after months of use. It may be an Android-side change in recent versions rather than a YAML issue.

Has anyone else seen this on One UI 9 or Android 17? Any workaround other than command_dnd would be appreciated.
