i just got one Matter device and i need to control it from a php script on a Debian Linux box. What commandline tool should i use?
I tried chip-tool but its error after error for hours with no progress. some docs say matter is all ipv6. but i did a tcpdump on the mac address of my device directly from the openwrt AP it connects to and its talking ipv4 on port 5540 udp.
The app from Moes works fine to control it and it gives me an 11 digit Matter Setup code with a 5 minute countdown clock but i cant figure out how to make chip-tool use this code. the Debian box has wired Ethernet only but its the same L2 network as my APs, so this should work i would think. there’s no bluetooth on the Debian box but i don’t expect to need it if the device is already on wifi.
sort of. I tried asking on the Matter discourse forum, but it didn’t exist. So I’m asking in the largest forum of people who likely use matter and understand how it works.
But while I got ya here, installed HA just for this, and the device won’t join. I installed the app on a phone just to add the damn light switch. it scans the QR, and then just times out during the joining process. Does HA save a verbose failure log when it tries and fails to add devices?
A working solution to commission matter devices is very welcome.
The companion app requires google, as a part of a local, no-cloud, and private ha it is no option.
The matter server should be able to use a local Bluetooth adapter, no success.
The matter server should be able to use a ESP32, no success.
The matter server should be able to use ha as ESP32 replacement, no success.
I have seen different tips (remove/disable BLE adapter from ha, use passive scanning, use active scanning, …) nothing works.
So a working how-to commission a matter device is not present and it is a ha related question. I am trying some weeks, asked questions, read a lot of bad documentation and have not found a solution…
