I have a fan by a vent for better circulation which works fine - it’s plugged into a smart switch which only goes on or off dependent upon air blowing through the vent.
Sometimes there are guests in that bedroom that want the fan off altogether, but if the smart plug is off they cannot not turn the fan on or off as they or move it to a different outlet, etc as needed.
I can program around this but I’d prefer to get rid of the smart plug and have the fan controllable by home assistant such that it can also be changed by the switch built into the fan (including when turned off remotely).
Are there such fans (small corded “Table-Top” size) on the market compatible with HA (120v, used in the US)?
It’s commendable that you’d go through all the extra effort (and expense) to make sure guests in your house are comfortable.
I don’t have any hardware suggestions to offer, but I do have a software workaround which should work well enough for now.
Why don’t you set a “guest” helper as a condition in the automation? If it’s on, then the smart plug stays on and the fan goes into full manual control mode like any other fan.
Hell, chuck in a PIR in the room, and you could automate turning on/off guest mode depending on how many times it’s triggered within a period of time.
@ShadowFist, it’s actually much crazier than that, I do detect presence, temperature, control the lights by motion, and the vents being open or closed depending upon if the furnace or air is blowing, and also taking into account the air pressure in the vents (so as to avoid issues with back pressure to maximize furnace longevity).
Thanks for your reply. Actually, no, I already have a guest mode helper which I used in many places; what I need is a way to remove the smart plug used by the fan and instead have the same functionality built into the fan itself (smart tabletop fan that when it is poluged in, can be controlled by HA, prefereable directly instead of through the cloud)… Thoughts?
Guest mode automation to do what? I already have all the automations I needed, I just want to get rid of the smart plug for the fan and find a tabletop fan that is compatible with HA…?
