Completely disable entity naming

I am properly one of the few or perhaps the only person who does not like the auto entity naming. I would really like to disable it completely. Is that possible?

In my case, my HA is displayed in Dutch, but all my entities are named in English. Now when I add a new entity (for example a Zigbee device) all the entities are named in Dutch. So I find myself having to rename everything back into English.

If there is a way to completely disable this option, I would really like to hear it!

Well, there has to be names, so a default was required.
If you are looking for a change, perhaps a feature request or discussion with the devs would be what you are looking for.

There has to be names. I agree. But it used to work fine before too.

Change the default to have only “entity” in the “Entity ID Format for new entities” section as per the 2026.8 release’s blog post. Or maybe device plus entity. One of those combos should give you the old behaviour. I haven’t tested it yet, but that should work. Maybe someone else can confirm. My point is really just to say you can customise this.

I checked it’s limited to what you can do. You are forced to use the device and entity. It’s ok, but I do not want it in my native language but in English like it used to be before. Therefor I wish I could disable the new formatting.

Ya I just found this myself…
Popped back in to tell you.

There are 2 places for setting “Language”

  1. In your Profile
  2. In /settings/System/Home Info

Check those

I will test this. Thanks!

Yeah i understand you, with 30 years in the business, and from denmark, living half my life in sweden, it’'s decades ago i changed UI on both My Phones/PC’s/Laptops etc. and all OS/App Devices, Using English Only ( with a cost ), as i have issues helping friends over phone, even on site, as i don’t know( or remember ) my “native” language words :joy:

In HA, there is the “User, Language” which now seems to be reflected, in All Parts of the UI, ( So i don’t actually knows what the “Language” in /Settings/Home reflects )( I priviously thought that was for the System-Settings ( Could be that the UIX-Devs fu, and over-ruled this, or that the “roadmap” have a “strict streamlined path”

FYI, translations to entity_id’s were added years ago at this point. It just wasn’t always available for every integration because many integrations didn’t have translations. Integrations are gaining translations every release, so if you’re noticing this now, chances are the integration you’re testing with just gained translations.

The change in the last release did not change translation functionality. The only thing that changed last release in regards to entity_id generation is UI mentioned in the release thread. Prior to that release, for the past 3 months the entity_id defaulted to area_device_entity. Prior to that, it was just device_entity.

Well OP’s problem is the User_Language , and as i’ve always have English, i never found any “issues” in this regards, and now my Default Entity-Naming(Format) is set to “Device-Entity” which work for Me … Some entities i rename manually after creations( if the Device/Integration don’t complain ), no big deal

Note: If you have i.e User_Language set to Chinese or some arab-country etc( Other than Latin_Scripts ), the Entity naming reverts to English ( obviously ) , if you have i.e Dutch or Swedish , It Doesn’t revert to english ;), so in other words /System-Settings ( Like entity-naming ) could be English by Default, or follow the Setting in /Settings/System/Home ( Which i thought was a “system-settings” )

I tried setting every language possibility to English and still all the device id’s are written in Dutch. Really frustrating.

Yes they might have “overruled” previous behavior, in that case it could be a bug, however , as mentioned, ive always used English in HA( as i recal ) , but often had to change UI do to similar situations, in other apps/devices )
This is taken from the latest Docs

Again, i can’t tell whether this is “New” nor how it actually worked before
Could be an “overrule” to “Comply” with the New Roadmap, to satisfy/simplify for " someone "

i assume you also restarted, just in case  , if you set your User_language to english and English in Setting/system/Home i can’t really se the logic , in why it’s written in Dutch, Hardly does HA-Settings take notes of your browser-settings, and gps locations :joy: … or ?, don’t tell me you have your browser to translate your HA-Url to Dutch ???

Yeah, I restarted too. But did not help.

Until recently I could add everything and all the enties were in English even though my UI uses Dutch. Don’t understand where this change came from.

 No i have not set my browser to translate English. I manually update all entities to English now. It’s more work, but at least that still works.

There’s two settings, you have your user settings (bottom left icon, langauge).
This allows for ASAP switching of the GUI in realtime.

And you have setttings>system>home information, and at it’s bottom there’s country and language.

Learn which one does affect things such as entity name creation when you add a new integration and new devices. Eg. switch the second one to Italian and add a shelly plug, then switch to dutch and add another. And yes be prepared HA got quite a long term history about once known devices, means switching the language at that point won’t help much if a curerrntly dutch system remembers an italian shelly plug
