Configuration help needed - Z2M + Ikea Tradfri + Aqara H2 EU Dimmer

When we bought our house I had the great idea for more automatisation but also keeping it simple for those who don’t control devices through Siri (Homekit integration) or other technical means beside pushing a button.

So I bought a few Aqara Dimmer H2 EU and some Tradfri bulbs and thought, hey if you use your phone you control the lights directly and the dimmer switch will do the same just fine.

2 days after I connected everything I couldn’t be more wrong. I have no idea how to get it work. I mean at some point it is working (partially) but then the switch fails and shows red light and then I can’t control anything. But until that point I can at least use the bulbs through Apple Homekit.

I tried the blueprint to link devices/entities, I tried coupled/decoupled, I tried to set up some automatisation but in the end it does not do what I thought would be easy.

Is there anyone out there who has this set up and can share some light onto this?

I haven’t used either of those myself, but here’s my 2c anyway in case it helps.

H2EU dimmers aren’t really meant to be used with smart bulbs directly. They’re meant to be used with dumb bulbs unless you use decoupled mode*

*decoupled mode will require you to have a neutral at the switch location if you’re using smart bulbs.

The red light you’re seeing means you have some kind of power issue. Totally expected if you’re dimming directly-connected smart lights and/or don’t have a neutral.

Just replace the Tradfri bulbs with a dumb equivalent & you should be able to dim/ turn on the bulbs via both the H2 and HA.
Alternatively if you DO have a neutral at the switch & want to keep the Tradfris, set it to decoupled mode and don’t ever switch it back or you’ll have a bad time.
