Confused about automations on a fresh install

Hello, i just installed HA today to replace an old installation from ~4 years or so ago.

I thought i would start fresh and i hit my first roadblock

So i am using Zigbee2MQTT as well as Mosquitto broker to be able to use my Sonoff Dongle and Zigbee devices with HA.

I paired all my devices without many issues on z2m and when i press buttons i can see they get registered on the “recent activity” feed.

All i want to do is very simple, i have a few IKEA Rodret switches around my room and i simply only want them to turn all the lights on/off.

When i go to automations and go to see my rodret i am not sure what i am supposed to do, if i select “button pressed” then select my rodret, there are 0 entities with it, so it doesn’t do anything if i try to use it like that, there is no way for me to add an action or a trigger or something along those lines to detect when i press a button ? i remember setting this up very easily in the past but somehow i manage to get stuck here.

All the youtube videos i watch seem to be from a year or so ago and all of them have a slightly different UI or do not seem to show how to make a simple automation that detects a button press, or i am bad at searching haha.

Here is a screenshot of what i am drying to do:

I would be very thankful for the help, for now i’m just gonna use the default toggles in the HA dashboard to turn my lights on and off !

You need to look for your device under the ‘By type’ tab. Right at the bottom, you’ll find a ‘Device’ option :

Next, select your device and search for your switch.

The various possible actions should then be displayed. You’ll first need to try all the possible actions (click, double-click, etc.) on your device to make them appear here.

Thank you very much, that was it ! it’s been so long since i’ve setup HA and all the tutorials i saw didn’t go there, i did find the “Legacy action sensor” toggle a few minutes ago in z2m which is definitely what i was using before, but that left me wondering, if that is legacy, how are we supposed to do it now!

Anyhow, thank you very much for taking the time to answer me, especially with the screenshots, that’s super useful !
