Connecting Growatt min 4200 tl xh2

Hi all,

I am already trying for weeks to connect my Growatt MIN 4200 TL XH2 to home assistant on a Raspberry Pi 5, but I can’t get it working.

On this picture you see there are 6 RJ45 ports on my inverter.
I already cut a UTP cable, and connected pins 3 and 4 (and after as well 5 and 6) to A and B of an USR - DR164 serial rs485 to wifi converter and plugged the other side in the COM port and the RS485 port.
All combinations I tried didn’t gave any result.

The logs of home assistant say below error.

I have the feeling I already tried everything, with assistance of AI as well but can’t make any progress. So I hope someone of you has some suggestions that I can try to get it working.

erm…on the picture it is plugged in the ‘bat’ port, not RS485 ??

And for Growatt I can definitely advise Homeassistant SolaX modbus integration , it has way more features

I also just learned your Growatt MIN 4200 TL XH2 can also be used with a ShineX USB2wifi dongle.

If you happen to have one, you can reflash it with esphome to support modbus over wifi (or buy one, they are around €20,-)

Cooked this esphome yaml together to re-flash my Growatt ShineWiFi-X dongle. I’m using it with the Solax integration on a Growatt MOD 4000TL3-XH, but it should work on any model. I re-used the led’s to: Green → TX Red–> RX Blue–>Status ;If no clients, just a 1Hz heartbeat, otherwise a 100ms pulse for every client (with a 3s interval). My cable isn’t in anymore, the cable in the Bat port was already in there.

Hmm…it seems there are some differences between EU models and australian models (see chapter 6.9 ) regarding com ports ?

Pretty sure the usb-shineX option will work though; it works fabulous on mine (although it is a bit different model)

I also rechecked the (EU) manual:

it doesn’t have any reference to your RJ45 connectors on your picture ??

Where are they be located and documented??

They are at the bottom. Guess it is the latest version of the min 4200 tl xh2. I had before an older model that didn’t had the RJ45 ports either.

Hmm, before i re-flashed the ShineX-usb module I briefly used the sys-com port; (if i remember correctly pins 3&4) with an elfi-ew11 modbus2tcp module, i used dupont cables to connect it (as the plug was too expensive with only using 2 wires )

In the meantime i asked Growatt for a manual for this specific version.

Based on below overview, which port and pins should be used?

I assume it is port SYN with Pins 3 and 6 as this is used for third party monitoring. I will try tonight and let the results know.

I assume it’s port RS485.

My guess would be Syn (3-6) RS485A2 / RS485B2, the 3rd party shine bus…

But, you should try which port has the info/control you need…

Good to hear it works (in one go ) The only additional advise I can give you is to check put the solax intgration (especially when you want to control power (looking at your name you’re dutch ? ivm ‘salderen’ )
