With the recent announcement of the Google Home Hub I had a bit of a wacky idea.
Firstly my setup. I have many door/window contact sensors around the house which I use as a quick means to see which rooms are open to the weather and potential intruders. As a general rule of thumb, when I close a door/window I also typically lock it.
Coming back to the Google Home Hub I see it has a ‘Lock’ feature, presumably to see which doors are locked/unlocked and I guess to also remotely lock them. And it doesn’t look like the Hub has any means to additionally check contact sensors for the room’s doors/windows.
So I was thinking as a stop-gap solution whether HA could be configured to treat contact sensors as ‘locks’ and have them sent to the Hub?
So my main initial thoughts are:
- Can HA contact sensors be treated as a lock? Without looking further at this stage, I would have thought the answer to this would/could be yes.
- Would that HA ‘lock’ domain be compatible with HA Cloud?
- Would HA Cloud then communicate with Google Home Hub to display it as a ‘Lock’?
Likewise, over in another thread started by someone else, I commented that I would be curious to know if the Generic Sensors when treated as a Climate domain in HA Cloud is subsequently treated as a Thermostat in Google Home Hub?
Hopefully, you can see where I am heading with this. How can HA be made more compatible with the front-end features of the Google Home Hub? I can expand on this in a bit more detail if needed.
