I have a Flash Forge 3D pro printer that I want to turn on and off remotely. It doesn’t support WOL. It has a hardware rocker switch to control it. I was thinking I could somehow use an ESP and relay to control it. Yes I could just use a zwave outlet but why not ESP it
Just to switch power on/off? For sure you can.
But what’s the purpose for that?
The device only has a hard on/off rocker switch and no auto-power off. Seems like a waste to have it just sit there on. And due to it’s size it’s in a different room. I’d like to be able to wake it up or power it on remotely so I can do a 3d Print and then turn it off…
And you prefer Esp32 instead of smart switch?
Or smart switch like Shelly with Esp32 onboard?
I could certainly do just a smart switch plugged into the wall, but wanted to do something with ESP. It might be easier if it was just a push momentary switch at present, but it’s not. Not even sure yet how much room I might have.
Shelly 1 mini gen3 has esp32 and relay in really tiny packet.
Bare Esp32 makes sense if you can connect it without relay (verify circuit of the printer control board) or if you already have those and relays in your drawer.
@Karosm I’m not sure what you mean by “bare ESP32”.
Sorry, I mean esp32 devboard or anything that has not relay built in.
