Control Anki Cozmo robot from Home Assistant!

Hi

This is a Home Assistant integration for the Anki Cozmo robot.
You can drive it, watch the camera feed, use facial expressions, speak, use the robot’s light, and one light cube… all from Home Assistant.

I couldn’t find anything current that did this, so I built it with Grok Build and I’m sharing it.

Cozmo is not a normal device on your LAN. In SDK mode it starts its own Wi-Fi, so the integration talks to a small companion on a machine with a spare Wi-Fi adapter. That part is in the README. I’ve been running it on my own Home Assistant server (ubuntu) and the integration in home assistant then communicates via the companion service.

Source code and documentation:

Requirements:

  • Home Assistant 2025.1 or newer
  • A Cozmo robot with a charged battery
  • A computer that can run the companion (Linux with NetworkManager is the tested path)
  • A Wi-Fi adapter dedicated to Cozmo. Do not use the interface that carries your normal network

Installation:

  • HACS: add that repo as an Integration, download Cozmo, restart.
  • Manually

You also need to install the companion service (w/ a one-line installer), so please read the instructions carefully on how to setup that in your system.
If you have an old usb wifi dongle, it will be handy! if not, there are plenty of cheap USB Wifi dongles out there. I’m using a TP-Link Archer T3U which was less than 10eur to buy.

You can also use this as an additional very smart and cute CCTV camera in Frigate, with the amazing fact that it can move to where you want to go

Just think of the automations you can make

And of course, credits go to the community and pycozmo developers, and also Anki for creating this amazing little robot.

Let me know what you think
