I searched the threads here and couldn’t find a relevant answer to my question.
I’m an HA newbie, and in the process of wiring the whole house.
I’ve bought some neutral Zigbee modules thinking I would be able to control my lights with HA, but I cannot figure out how to set those up properly.
After digging it seems the modules I bought can only work for a single control, or in a 2-way control setup. Those are the Tuya zigbee ZWSM16-W4 (https://aliexpress.com/item/1005007096497923.html), as well as ZWSM16-W1, ZWSM16-W2 and ZWSM16-W3.
My use case is being able to control an array of LED spots from multiple physical switches.
For instance I have a room with 4 doors leading to it, and hence I have 4 physical switches to turn on/off the single led spots array.
I’m not sure how to do that with the ZWSM16-W4.
I’ve since then searched a bit more and read somewhere that in order to be able to control a light from multiple physical switches, you need to use a device for each switch like the Sonoff ZBMINIR2 (https://aliexpress.com/item/1005007901833955.html).
Would that work? Do you really need a module for each switch, or can get away with one module per light array? Are those module mini-relays?
Last but not least, in some room I have some physical double-switches that control 2 lights ; would you know of a device that can control those 2 lights in that kind of configuration too?
So 4 switch positions. Array of LED’s.
What does Array of LED’s mean.
In other words, assuming it’s dumb wired now, how are the switches connected to lights now?
I use one Zigbee or Wifi module with 3 or 4 switches. Wire them as a dumb 3/4/x switch setting, and put your smart module at the end between the switches and the lights
Currently the wiring is ‘dumb’ with all the switch going to single place, where there should be the smart switch. All the physical switches are push buttons (momentary switches).
Sorry English is not my native language, and by ‘array of led spots’, I mean multiple ceiling LED spots that acts as a single light source.
From the aliexpress page, I’m not sure the Tuya is a relay since it’s not mentioned anywhere, but from my understanding any ‘smart switch’ could act as one. Maybe I’m mistaken.
Not an Electrician (and the way its wired may be different in different countries).
However my understanding is similar to this video:
Specifically the take aways are:
In a correctly wired “dumb” switch/light setup.
It doesn’t matter how many switches you have - the wiring of the light itself stays the same.
You can repeat the “Intermediate switch” as many times as you want.
To say that another way from the “lights” perspective it doesn’t “know” how many switches are used, it could be 1 or it could be 10.
You will place the Zigbee module between the switch (the first switch) and the light.
Since you have “at least” one switch you probably need the ZWSM16-W1 instead of the ZWSM16-W4. Because the ZWSM16-W1 has an input for “the” Switch and the W4 does not.
By wiring it up that way, you treat all 4 switches like they are 1 switch (you can’t read them individually) but switching any of them will still send the input to the ZWSM16-W1
