I’m new to Home Assistant and I’m currently looking to make the lights in my flat smart.
I’ve got a dumb light in the hallway that is currently controlled by three dumb switches. I checked the switches and they are currently wired in a configuration like this (two normal switches, one cross switch):
I would like to replace all three of them with BSEED Zigbee switches and retain the current functionality.
After some researching, I found out that I would have to connect one switch to the lamp and just connect the other two switches to Neutral and Live, then create an automation that toggles all three switches whenever one is pressed.
Luckily, I have neutral wires in all of the switch housings so connecting the smart switches should not be a problem.
Can anybody confirm that this is the right way to do this? It might be a stupid question, but I’m a total beginner.
You can simply put a ZigBee relay behind a dumb switch which i find allot better unless your gonna use like a specialty switch with intercom and video etc. Why you have more switch designs open to you as you can essentially put any switch or leave your regular switch installed.
Also, i honestly dont trust anyone’s wiring diagrams i only trust voltage readings & a picture of what wires are in your box with voltage reading list. Never got zapped and dont plan too lol
Technically it’s doable and since you have neutral on all housings you have great freedom to choose your switches.
But do you want some Tuya switch that relies on wireless hub or would it be better to have something hard-wired? You have both choices. Also, if you didn’t test those touch switches, do it. I have few, just because I’m too lazy to replace them.
Yes, I concur with this recommendation. You only need to place one new device and you have a fallback option that works even if your network goes down for whatever reason.
There’s plenty of options for the relay, Shelly will work bit also Sonoff, Nodon etc
