Has any of you tried to control heat pump outdoor unit from HA?
I want to modify an air source heat pump into an air/water heat pump for home heating by connecting it to a plate heat exchanger. But I need a way to control the heat pump so I don’t have to buy and modify the indoor unit only to allow control.

I recently set up a Gree Flexx (aka MrCool_Universal GE_Connect Midea_Evox Napoleon_NS18) outdoor unit to an air-handler for heat & A/C, and also a refrigerant to water coil for heating to a hydronic system with buffer tank. I used an HBX controller which works ok but I’m fed up now with it’s closed, inflexible s/w, no data access. I’m thinking about making a controller from a Kincony KC868-A8 board.
No. to me it looked like it would be very time consuming and potentially costly. I found a used air/water heatpump at a good price and lost interest in this project.
